Maybe nothing, and maybe plenty, but wine investment is the perfect way to put money away with the guarantee that it will grow with each passing year! You don"t have to be an expert in wine in order to invest in it. You don"t even have to drink it. The money from investing in wine isn"t made from drinking or knowing the wine, it"s made from storing it.

The only thing you actually have to be aware of is how to store your wine properly and make sure that it"s protected in order to ensure your investment. Here a few hints which you need to keep in mind, keep it in the dark, store it on its side, make sure it is kept at a constant temperature, ensure it has the proper humidity and that it is isolated, and know for how long it can be stored. Each of these points is vital to guaranteeing your investment.

The reason that wine needs to be stored in a dark place is because direct light or even fluorescent light can cause the wine to have an unpleasant smell, this is called "light struck". So, whether  you  are storing your wine in a special wine cellar or in a closet in your home, make sure that the lights in the closet are sodium vapour lamps or incandescent lamps. Next, when storing your wine it is important that it is placed on its side, this is because the cork may dry up if the wine is upright. The cork is important because it keeps air out, if it"s dry, air can enter into the bottle and eventually spoil it.

You  need to make sure that  you  have a constant temperature for your wine. The best temperature is approximately 12.2°C, this will ensure that it will not oxidize and keeps your wine maturing well. If it goes over 24°C your wine will oxidize, any lower wont  hurt  the wine, but it will mature slower. If  you  are serious about wine investment, be sure that you have a cooler where you store your wine, to ensure that the temperature is perfect at all times. The humidity should be around 70%, any lower and the cork may dry plus it minimizes evaporation, any higher will cause mould and possibly the labels will start peeling off. Lastly, make sure that the cooler, closet, cellar or other storage area where you have your wine is only for your wine. Wine "breathes", which means that it intakes smells that are around it. The smell will penetrate the cork and change the taste of the wine, therefore ruining it. If there is no way to isolate the wine completely, make sure that the area has proper ventilation.

These are all very important points, which can be learned and perfected easily. When choosing your wine you need to make sure that your wine investment is secure. What you have to do is choose the wine carefully and research it, some wines mature faster and after a certain time cannot be stored because they will go bad, while others get better as they mature. Investing in wine is pretty simple once you get the basics down. There are three steps, research, purchase, and store. From that point on your investment is waiting for you to cash in on it!
