Tips For Power Walking or Fitness Walking

Running is a great activity and many runners started out as walkers. Walking is also a great form of exercise and will get you in shape. Walking briskly will burn almost as many calories as running - and can be easier on the body. Power Walking or Fitness Walking more than a casual walk around the park. You will be walking at a nice pace - usually around 15 minutes a mile. Here are some  tips  for learning to walk faster for fitness.

When you are walking, you want to make sure that you keeping up a good posture. You should be looking forward - about 15-20 feet in front of you. Do not keep looking at the ground. Your eyes and head need to be facing forward. This will help you to keep your balance and also to be able to see any obstacles in the road.

You want to make sure that you are keeping your shoulders relaxed. Don"t walk with your shoulders tense - this will cause you to burn more energy than you need to and to make you tired faster.

Keep your arms bent at almost a 90 degree angle. Do not clench your fists, but cup your hands. Also, swing your arms from front to back. You do not want to swing them from side to side - as this can also cause you to lose balance. Another  tip  is that the faster you can swing your arms - the faster you will walk.

Make sure that you are doing deep breathing. Your breaths should come from your belly - you don"t want to breathe shallowly. This will help you to get more oxygen and you will walk better.

You want to use quick, short strides. This will help you to walk faster. Resist the urge to over stride. Over striding could cause injury - and will not help you to walk faster.

Many walkers are out there walking with leg weights around their ankles. This is not good for you - and could cause you to injure your leg muscles. You are already exerting energy by walking briskly, so you do not need the extra straining of trying to carry around a leg or ankle weight.

There are many benefits of fitness walking. These  tips  should help you to keep out there walking and walking without energy. They will also help you to start walking faster and get an even better work out.
