Redecorating your bathroom does not have to be expensive or difficult. Tropical bathroom decor is not only easy to do, but it will give a lift to a tired room and turn it into a relaxing retreat.

Whether you are planning on redoing the entire room or just replacing a few key pieces does not matter. This article presents a top to bottom make-over that can be followed step by step or done piecewise.

The most important feature of a tropical room is the color scheme. When choosing colors, use photos from tropical locations for reference. There should be a range of blues, greens, earth tones, and pinks. To create a relaxing environment, choose a muted overall color like a sky blue or a textured pale peach that will gift the feel of being in a beach resort.

A mural in this case is also an option. A strategically placed mural of palms, beaches, birds, or fish can give the room an authentic feel. This is only a project that should be undertaken if you feel comfortable with it, however, as it can prove to be messy and difficult for those with poor painting skills.

Have tile and wonder what to do? Replacing tile can be expensive so if it will not match, consider painting it with a waterproof paint. It can be done successfully if the right paint and the right steps are followed. Ask for advice from the service personnel at your local hardware store and be sure that you do not start to paint until your tiles are completely clean and dry.

The part that is really going to start to make your bathroom feel like a tropical paradise is the accessories. This does not have to be expensive. You would be surprised how many great finds you can come across in thrift, discount, and dollar stores. If you have time, take a day to visit the local yard sales in your area as well.

Do not worry about matching your pieces. When everything matches, it can get quite boring. It is only important that the items match the color scheme and there are many colors to choose from in this case.

The shower curtain is another story. There are several available with brightly colored fish or birds or palms but these tend to be more tacky than relaxing. The best thing to do is leave the bursts of color for the smaller accessories and to choose a clear, sheer, or pale and light colored curtain to match the overall wall color.

When shopping, keep yours eyes open for wicker baskets and hampers. Wooden pieces of furniture will also do if they have that weathered beachy look. Choose towels in pure white if the overall color is a pink blue or green. If the overall color is cream or white, you can feel free to bring in color with the towels.

In the artwork you will want to look for color. Prints of tropical birds, or coral reefs are fantastic choices, both brilliantly colored and tasteful.
